Natural Dyes and Plant Magic

Sunday, October 15th 10am-1pm

Join Kayle Karbowski and Sarah Eichhorn around the fire as we explore our local wild dye plants! Fiber artist and seasoned natural dyer, Sarah, will guide us through various botanical dye techniques and teach us how to obtain a multitude of rich colors from favorite fall plants like goldenrod, black walnut, marigold, tansy and sumac. Inspired by her flower essence and dreamwork practice, Kayle will then share the lore, magical and medicinal properties of the plants we use, and we’ll cover ways to work with these plants in ritual and ceremony as we honor the season’s turning. Participants will have the chance to dye their own pillowcase (just in time for dreaming and drifting through the season of long nights!), and will leave with a zine outlining natural dye basics, how to care for your naturally dyed fabric, and the magical/medicinal descriptions of the plants we work with.

THIS CLASS IS NOW BEING HELD AT THE SHOP, HEDGE MEADOW HERBS + APOTHECARY: 25 BRODHEAD ST., MAZOMANIE, WI.

About the Teachers:

Sarah Eichhorn (she/her) is a fiber artist, educator and caregiver located in Milwaukee, WI.  She has a background in all things fiber ~ from sewing to weaving to knitting ~ and enjoys gardening and growing her own dye plants.  Her making is functional and focuses on sustainability: use the quilts, wash the towels, and wear the clothes!  When she’s not making, she can be found at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design teaching classes on fashion and fibers.

Kayle Karbowski (she/they) is a facilitator and creatrix living on the western banks of Lake Michigan. In 2019, she founded Other Dust, a psychospiritual consultancy and technoapothecary focused on developing intuition and reclaiming interdependence in an age of disconnection. A driving force of Kayle’s work is rekindling the relationship between our intellect and intuition. Their practice has many faces ~ from crafting talismans and potions to working with people through tarot and beyond, Other Dust is a social and personal practice of divination, ritual, tending, and artmaking.

Lastly, please use common sense and do not attend class if you’re sick, if someone in your household is sick, or if you know you’ve been exposed to an infectious pathogen.
